24th of July Weekend in Redmond

For the 24th of July Weekend the Wilsons decided to have a family reunion.  We originally wanted to go to Boulder and go camping and enjoy the festivities there, but there was not an acceptable campground or hotel left for the weekend.  So we all agreed to go to Redmond.  On the night of the 23rd is the town bar-b-que at the city park.  Our little family headed down along with Dan and Brandee's family, and Angela and Brett.  Russ and Linda were already there.  The kids and I enjoyed meeting many of the people that Scott grew up with.  I played with the kids a lot at the park while Scott was able to visit with many of his friends.  After the dinner we and Dan and his boys set up tents in Russ and Linda's yard.  We all enjoyed watching the fire works from the back yard.  They are set off from the church just up the hill.  It was a pretty good show.  We did not anticipate that there would be a dance held a few blocks away with lots of music and noise throughout the night.  Up until midnight it was hard to sleep.  For a few hours Rubie lay awake next to me asking "What was that?" At every noise she heard, and there was a lot.  Finally after midnight we fell asleep.  Scott, Dan, and I woke early to go for a morning run around the town.  We left the kids in the tent thinking they were so tired from staying up late that they would sleep in.  When we got back, two little naked bodies greeted us at our tent door.  Eric and Rubie had woken up.  Eric unzipped the tent door, peed out the door, zipped it back up and started to get he and Rubie dressed for the day.  At least we are teaching our kids to be independent.
Hi Mom and Dad!

Grrrr, I'm getting us dressed in our play clothes.

We had a yummy Wilson style breakfast and then headed to the main part of town for the 24th of July Parade.  I had never participated in a small town parade.  It was great!  They still throw candy, and lots of it,  popsicles, toys, and even candy bars.  The kids loved it.
Eric cheering for the fire trucks, and the candy.

Tasting his catch.  Kids were all over running after candy.

Enjoying some of the popcicles that were thrown out.

Brandee and Cougar.

Dellitt and grandma enjoying an otter pop.

After the parade there was a carnival with games, activities, rides for the kids, and food at the park.

Everyone owns four wheelers here.  I guess this is the Redmond version of the train ride.

On the train ride.

This fire truck was giving kids a ride around the town.  Oh boy were the kids excited!

Rubie and Eric ready to go.  The horn blared and the siren sounded adding to the excitement.
They loved the ride!

Rubie fishing for a prize.  She won some necklaces which she was so proud of.
When Eric saw that you could win goldfish at one of the games, that is all he wanted.  He worked hard and earned one goldfish.  Then when we got back to the family and because Dan and Brandee were headed to CA the next day, Eli couldn't keep the fish he had won.  So that also became Eric's.  I was skeptical that the fish would even survive the next two days until we got them home.  And then another day until we got some fish food and could feed them.  But Eric was so happy to have them that we had to try.
Rubie wanted to claim one fish for her own.

The 23rd was Scott's b-day. We had a birthday cake and sang and celebrated his birthday.

Yum!  Pink frosting!
