Under the Weather, 2 Lunch Dates, Insta Care, A New Bed, and Parent/Teacher Conferences

It has been a busy week.  The Company Scott is working for is in a lot of turmoil right now.  The owners are going back and forth about selling their company or laying people off, or making some irrational, impulsive decisions.  Because of that Scott has spent a couple days working from home.  He could be laid off, fired, or fired any day.  Or he could be kept on and have a lot of work to do.  No doubt he will land another job.  However, he is having to again really rely on the Lord and exercise patience and control his anxiety over all of this.

Since Rubie and Sam were sick last week, that means that I got sick this week.  I could tell by Sunday evening when I went to bed that I was getting sick.  Then Scott came home from drill and I could tell that he wasn't feeling well.  With all the lack of sleep he had there and hard work, he was worn down and so he got sick too.  I made it worse then on Monday afternoon clearing out some old plants and debris in the yard making a nicer play area for the sandbox and a little play kitchen we inherited from the Gerber's.  Every time I do yard work that involves ripping out old plants and plant debris where there has been moisture and digging up dirt and whatever else is there, totally contributes to a sinus infection for me.  Monday evening I had nausea, and alternating hot flashes and cold sweats.  I haven't been that sick in a long time.

Since Scott and I were both home together we decided to so some errands and that resulted in going out to lunch on Tuesday.  I have not been out to lunch in FOREVER.  We went to Wild Zucchini.  Yummy!

Wednesday I finally felt up to sort of trying to workout.  But just as I was walking out the door to take Sam to the Huddleston's, the school called.  Eric had to be taken to the Emergency Room and would probably need stitches.  He had an unfortunate accident in his classroom.  They have these small white personal white boards they use for writing and math exercises.  They are kept in cubbies along one wall of the room.  Mrs. Davis had a few students at a time going to get their and coming back to the their desks.  Eric already had his and was sitting at his desk.  One boy, Caden Handy, who is bouncy and energetic, a little flighty and not always aware of what he is doing grabbed his and flung it around, not trying to do any harm or damage, just not thinking.  It hit Eric right in the forehead just above his right eye.  It gave him a deep gash.  Mrs. Davis said immediately the other children gasped and started to say that he was bleeding.  Of course there was lots of blood.  Mrs. Davis, having spent 6 years as an ER nurse, is very capable of handling these incidents.  She got him cleaned up and to the nurses station in the office.  I rushed over to the school and took Eric to the Instacare.  On duty happened to be the same nurse and Dr. that took care of Eric a couple months ago with the large abscess on his penis.  What a great medical staff.  They were so great with Eric.  He was so worried about a shot and the stitches.  He actually was freaking out.  And then when the shot came for the numbing, he became almost uncontrollable.  I had his teddy bear, we said a prayer, I tried to sing with him.  But he was screaming and wouldn't hold still.  He gets this look on his face of terror, and it's like he isn't there, he is somewhere else, and I can't get him back.  Finally he started snapping his fingers and counting and taking a deep breath.  That is just what the Dr. needed him to do and could then do the stitches.  He has 6 stitches above his eyebrow.  His beautiful, handsome face, and now he has this big Frankenstein scar.  I'll start applying essential oils to it soon to help it heal better and hopefully soon it will hardly be noticeable.  After we were done there I took him to McDonald's for lunch and then he went back to school.  While it was very traumatic for him, it hardly slowed him down at all.

Wednesday evening I got a new bed!  11 years ago we bought a $300 King size mattress out of the garage of some kid that was selling a bunch of mattresses from his garage.  Scott has been complaining for a year or two now that we need a new bed.  Finally when I have started to have neck and shoulder issues that are not going away, I agreed.  We decided that we would get separate beds.  I am a super light sleeper and Scott wakes me up with his moving around, rolling over, getting up, snoring.  Lights and noises are constantly waking me up.  So we went to the Mattress Discount store and would you know it, after trying all the beds in the store I want the 2nd most expensive bed.  Only because there was no way we could afford the most expensive.  I always thought I liked a really firm bed, but apparently as a back sleeper it's better to have a soft bed.  Well, of course Scott wanted to buy me that bed, but that meant that he does not get a new one for awhile.  But he was happy to sleep on our extra twin, which happens to be the top bunk of the kid's bed.  But they won't sleep on it so we have my new lovely queen bed in our room and a twin bed.  We plan to re-do the kids' beds and sleeping situations.  I don't know when but that is the plan.

Thursday I was feeling even better.  I exercised and then since the day was so beautiful I wanted to take Samuel outside.  We went to the Grove Creek Trailhead to hike around.  He was so cute hiking all over these little trails.  I had a delightful time with him.  After when we came home I spontaneously suggested we go to lunch again.  This time at this new Gourmet Mexican Tortilla Bar called Masa.  Loved it, it was delicious.

After school Eric went to the Norton's to play and Rubie and Sam went to the Tulett's for Link's 6th birthday party.  Scott and I went to Parent/Teacher Conferences.  I'm so grateful for such good teachers and a good school for our children to attend.  Both Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Soderstrom have such good things to say about Eric and Rubie.  They both love our children and are pleased with their progress.  I'm so glad they are both good students.  They both try to be good for their teachers and to be good to the other students.  Eric is a real leader in his class.  And Rubie is a sweetheart.

Home Sick

This has not been a typical week.  Both Samuel and Rubie were sick this week.  Rubie started to lose her voice on Monday but still went to school.  Monday night I had a feeling she was getting worse and by Tuesday morning she had a fever and was feeling nauseous.  Then Sam came down with it too.  It's hard on me to have sick kids.  They just require so much from me and I don't get any kind of a break.  Rubie especially is needy.  She was well enough that she wanted me to still play with her and entertain her.  I had to force her to lie down and rest.  Tuesday the weather was nice and so when Sam was ok, I took him outside just to get some fresh air.  Rubie came right out to play ball and jump on the trampoline.  By Friday I was so ready for her to go back to school.  But then on Friday I had Alena Parker and Addie Huddleston come over.  Their moms were doing a long run and setting up the Grove Crest 5K.  I wanted to do a long run.  I missed a lot of workouts this week.  I'm pretty disappointed with myself and not getting in my workouts and my food choices.  I made a goal today to not eat any wheat based food.  I did well.  I only lapsed when Eric was about to waste over half his cereal and I had already thrown that much of Sam's away.  Eating food that the kids are going to waste is probably my biggest downfall with food choices.  So today I did well.  I'm going to continue that this week.

I spent much time yesterday helping with food prep for the ward activity last night.  It was the annual YM/YW fundraiser.  We held a dinner and auction.  Scott was at army all weekend.  I helped with food prep but didn't attend the activity.  I just didn't feel like using the beehives for free babysitting.  I already had Ireland last Sunday night so that Scott and I could attend the adult fireside on recognizing signs of suicide in kids and teens.

There has not been much that went on this week.  I have been very tied to the house.  One tender mercy was Stephanie Searle having Sam come over on Monday.  Last Saturday we bought flowers to put in the planters on the porch.  I was preparing the planters with gravel in them.  I thought I could do it with Sam and that he would like putting the rocks in the planters.  But, he only wanted to take them out.  As fast as I could get the gravel in the pots, he would throw it out across the porch and the lawn.  That was not working so he went over to the Searle's to play with Connor.  It took me between 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get the pots planted and the porch cleaned up.  They look beautiful.  I hope that Sam leaves them alone and that we can keep them alive all summer.
