Samuel Turns 1 Year Old

Samuel turned one year old on Saturday.  What a cutie he is!! We all declare frequently that he is just the cutest little guy.  He makes us all smile and feel so great.  He crawls around the house soooo fast and is into everything.  He loves to open drawers and cupboards and pull everything out.  He wants to stick his hands in the toilets.  He is super interested in stuff in Eric and Rubie's room.  He loves going outside, but for whatever reason he has to crawl so fast down the drive way toward the road.  He goes for anything with lights and buttons, especially phones, the iPad, computers, the remotes to TV and stuff there.  For his birthday we gave him a robot that lights up and moves, drums that light up and play music because these are things he would love.  On his own he has started climbing up the stairs.  He has done two stairs at a time on his own.  I have been trying to show him how to go down the stairs so that has probably made him less afraid of trying to go up.

We had a nice little celebration on Saturday with Grandma and Grandpa Jeppson and Great Grandma Perry.  Joe and Scott each had drill.  But they were able to get away and come about 4 in the afternoon.  Grandma and Grandpa brought Jaxon with them.  It was fun to have them here for dinner and to celebrate.

Samuel is getting harder to take places because he does NOT want to sit still.  He wants to crawl around and be in the action.  Like church, he won't stay on our row but must explore the room and people there.  He is hard to have at Eric and Rubie's karate class because he wants to crawl out onto the mat.  So now I'm trying to come up with other options for him during things.

He certainly loves other children and spends time at the Tulett's, Huddlestons's, and Stices when I go to Rubie's classroom or for Relief Society Meetings.  Saturday he will spend a couple hours at Dan and Brandee's while I take Eric and Rubie to their karate tournament.

He hasn't said other words yet besides Mom/momma.  Sometimes I think he is saying Eric, but I'm not sure.  He is barely getting teeth in.  A couple weeks ago one popped in on the bottom and now just the last few days at the same time the other bottom tooth and the two top teeth are coming in.  They have been just underneath his gums for a long time and I thought for sure months ago they would come through but are just barely.  He is starting to pull himself up to standing if something is the right height and the floor isn't too slippery.  He is starting to sit still for a few minutes at a time for stories.  He wants to eat food that he feeds himself and not just always have me feed him baby food.  He has also started to have an opinion about what he is doing and eating and is trying to express it by reaching his hands for it or trying to refuse something by his grunting and crying and a rigid body.

He has a beautiful, warm smile and such a sweet nature.  I am amazed at how well he handles our affections, especially from Rubie who is exuberant in giving her affection to him.  He seems to like the car better, especially with forward facing car seat and seems to know that if he is in the car with us he is not being excluded from some activity.

I love him so much.  We love him so much.  We look forward to many more memories with Samuel J.
