Recently Grove crest held the annual Reflections Contest. The theme this year was Who I Am. Sunday, a few days before the entries were due, Rubie wrote a poem during sacrament meeting and wanted to enter in the contest. Tuesday morning I took her to school and helped her, hurriedly complete the entry form and get it turned in. While there the mom in charge asked if I would be available to come back and help judge. So on that Thursday I went back to help judge. I was disappointed really at many of the entries. They were ok. There were of course some that really stood out in each category. Overall there were not that many entries. I was able to judge all of them within an 90 minutes. I may really be biased, but I honestly felt that Rubie's poem was one of the best. She stayed true to the theme and it was very creative and honest. She actually won one of three awards and her poem has been sent on to the next level. I hope others continue to like it. I was so proud of her. Scott took her to the assembly when the awards were given. We almost didn't make it, it was kind of an after-thought that Rubie reminded me of. But I'm so glad she went. This is her poem:
A Smile
A smile makes me happy,
A smile makes my laugh,
A smile makes me jump,
A smile makes me dance.
A smile makes me who I am.
