Dance Performance

Rubie's long awaited dance performance day finally came.  Rubie has been taking dance lessons, a combo tap/ballet class for 3-4 year olds, at Christina's Corner in Lindon since August.  Her teacher has been Camille Spence.  Camille was our neighbor and friend in our Orem ward.  Rubie had dance once a week on Monday afternoon.  Her friend Samara from ward and neighborhood was also in the class.  Samara's mom, Sarah and I would carpool with the girls which made it nice.  Usually Sarah would pick them up and Rubie got to go play at Samara's house while I was at Karate with Eric.  Sometimes the performance and the glamor of getting to dance on stage, have a new costume and wear make-up was Rubie's main motivation for doing well in class and listening to her teacher.  Rubie LOVES doing dance, but she doesn't always think that the teacher is fair (fair to her) and she sometimes feels the teacher should listen to her.

The performance was on May 19 held at UVU Regan Theater.  There would be a early afternoon and late afternoon performance.  That made for a very long day especially for such young girls.  Grandma Jeppson came down and went to the first performance with us.  In between I took the kids to lunch and then we went back for the second performance.  Scott had drill that weekend but was able to get away and come see the second performance.

All ready to go and very excited.

Having a snack before we go in.

Cool Wolverine.
We were unable to take pictures or video during the performance.  These are from the rehearsal before the show.  We were able to buy a DVD that was professionally produced of the show.

This is what Eric did during most of the 1st performance.  Each performance was about 90 minutes.

Rubie was so thrilled and felt so special that her dad brought her flowers.

Rubie and her cute friend Samara.  Their first dance number was to a song called "Mickey Mouse's Birthday Party" thus the Minnie ears.
During the rehearsal I could tell the Rubie was nervous.  It is a big theater and already there was a lot of people.  She didn't smile much and seemed shy.  The first performance was better, but by the second performance she was not nearly as nervous.  She smiled and I could actually hear her as she sang the words out.  She performed all the steps and did a great job.  We are so proud of our dancing princess.
