Air Show
Last week Scott started his new job with Five9. He flew to CA for training on Monday and was back on Friday afternoon. He went out there again on Sunday night and will be back on Friday. He should be in town for the rest of the summer. He things that the next 2 months will not be too busy for him as he is in the on-boarding phase. I have mixed feelings about him working from home. He does create A-LOT more work for me just being here and having to cook for him and clean up after him, but maybe I'll have a little more freedom.
Scott decided that he wanted to take Eric and Rubie to the Air Show at Hill Air Force Base that was on Saturday. He talked Ben into going with him and taking their kids, since Joe had drill Ben offered to bring Jaxson. Well, Saturday morning while they were getting ready to go I all of a sudden had a desire to go. I thought Sam would enjoy it as well. We got on the train in AF at 8 a.m. Ben texted Scott to let him know that Cassie and my mom were coming too. Lots of people were getting on the train going to the Air Show too. They were projecting 250,000-300,000 people to show up. The train ride was fine, crowded. Ben's group got on the train at Farmington Station, then in Clearfield we got off and boarded some buses to get on to Hill Air Force Base. Then we had 45-60 minutes of waiting in line to get through security. Once through we all enjoyed exploring the planes that were there for us to see. There were planes putting on a show pretty much the whole time. The main attractions were the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, U.S. Army Golden Knights, and the Breitling Jet Team. The show lasted until about 5 p.m. It was a nice day. Hot only when we decided to set up and sit down to watch the airshow. Sam actually fell asleep. It was an amazing show and I really enjoyed it. It was awe-some and loud. Then came the trek to get out of there. Of course it took a long time getting off the base and then we waited at least an hour in line for the buses. We finally got on the buses and to the trains and we got off the train at 8 p.m. It was a very long day. The Richards from our ward also went and they were behind us in the line and didn't get off the train until 10 p.m. So I know it could have been worse. Rubie and Heidi and Mia begged for Rubie to sleep over at their house. Though we weren't prepared it was not bad timing because by staying over the weekend Rubie wouldn't miss anything. Ben is working in AF right now and so could bring her back on Tuesday morning. So she got to do that. She had a great time with cousins and with grandma on Monday who was there while Ben and Cassie went to work.
I registered Eric and Rubie to attend Grovecrest Elementary this Fall. We decided financially we need to not send them to American Heritage. This was a hard decision and we are very sad about it. However, I feel totally settled and calm about them going to Grovecrest. I know there will still be challenges. But financially we are going to be so much better off and hopefully start to get ahead. Mrs. Adams at AHS was actually amazing and really didn't want to let us go. She is on the scholarship committee and called to offer us a retention scholarship of 1/2 tuition. It was 2 half tuition, one for working as the Lunch Leader and the other as a retention scholarship. That still left us with $505 tuition / month to pay, plus the $160 it would cost to put Sam in daycare. That was too much. I really want the kids to be able to do karate and music lessons. And with the tuition payment that would be impossible. So we will be attending Grovecrest, Sam will attend preschool 2 days per week. Hopefully it's a good year for us.

Better Days
We had much days after the bad one. Thursday was actually great. We had the Tulett boys here all day Thursday so I guess I was more prepared to entertain. Rubie had tennis lessons, then I fed all the kids eggo waffles. They played in the house because Stewart's sprayed the lawn. Then after lunch I sent them outside with water balloons. I finally have invested in a few packages of the Bunch O' Balloons so the kids can fill them fast. After 10 minutes and all the 100 + balloons were popped, I zipped tied the hose to the top of the slide on the play set and secured the slip n' slide beneath it and let the kids smack their bottoms, knees, and all their parts while slipping and sliding all over the slide and slip n' slide. I handed out Popsicles and then we spent the rest of the afternoon doing Perler bead creations. Preston happened to come over and was here all day too and only added to the fun. All the kids loved the day and told me how much fun they had. I loved listening to the kids around the table as they chatted and came up with bead creations.
Friday I took the kids hiking to Battle Creek Falls. Eric invited Mckade Wallace and Rubie invited Sage Johnson. Sam was not feeling well, I carried him the whole way. He is heavy! We had a great hike. Eric and Rubie do so much better hiking when they have friends along. It's a dirty hike. The car is all dusty, clay dirty.
Saturday was a rainy day on and off. We started out helping with our turn to clean the church building. We pretty much just did chores and whatever. Rubie played at Paige's house and Eric went to Brock's birthday cuddle puppy party.

2 weeks into Summer Vacation
Summer vacation could be so much better. How come the kids can't run around getting all kinds of exercise by playing and having fun with friends. There are too many restrictions because of busy roads and heat, and jerk people that make it so kids can't wander without adult supervision. The kids have no "free" areas to explore and let their minds go with. I have to provide entertainment other than media and video games. Some have such a hard time being responsible to help cleaning up after themselves--namely Rubie. When she plays she has to get so much stuff out and then acts like it is the end of the world when she is asked to clean up or put things away. I feel like a constant ogre because I am constantly on her to keep her room clean or just put her stuff away or do her reading or math or anything. I am really trying not to make her do too much. I really struggle to know what the right balance is of requiring her to do things and just giving her free time. She is so whiny and rude to me too. I don't want it to be like that and I really am trying.
The latest updates for us: kids finished the school year. Eric did such an amazing job with academics and behavior in his class. Rubie did well in most areas. She struggled some with behavior and with math. She was actually starting to do better, but then summer came. And now, her behavior and attitude is not very good again. Rubie is taking a tennis class for the summer. She is also still in Brain Balance, I think at least through July. I'm really holding out for a keyboard for her to get started in piano lessons too. Eric doesn't have much this month. He is really good at doing his jobs, reading, math, and he just completed a craft. He loves playing with friends and will do what I ask to have rewards. I really want to potty train Sam. Of course I have nothing to do with it. He does not want to do it. Finally today I promised this big toy he wants if he would go one whole day with only going in the toilet. He has not done it yet. I'm a terrible parent. I don't know how to get my daughter to obey or potty train the 3 year old. I can't keep a clean or straight house, I can't provide anything. I suck at this life. I guess I'm supposed learn loads of humility and how to submit to the children with love and joy and cheerfulness.
Scott has less than 2 weeks of his job left with Upper Limit Aviation. He starts a new job with a company called Five9. Their product is a call center software. He is very excited to be working for an established company that seems to adhere to normal, regular business practices. He will be taking a cut in salary. Because of that we are unable to provide tuition for American Heritage this year. I am sick about it, I even just was offered a job as the Lunch Lead. It gives us a 1/4 tuition credit. But that wouldn't kick in until September and we cannot make the tuition even starting now. Financially it is the better decision. We are hopeful Scott will have opportunities for career moves with this new company that will provide more income and allow us to get out of debt, get a home, and provide tuition for American Heritage.
There's got to be better answers for parenting. I suck at parenting Rubie. Sam and Eric are just good for me. Rubie just pushes me to the edge and sometimes over. If she does not have her room clean by the time we go to the pool, she is staying home by herself to get it done. I also know that is totally not responsible to leave my 7 year old home alone while I take Sam and Eric to the pool. But why do the rest of us have to suffer for her. There are no babysitters, and that is a reward anyway. See I am too dumb to know what to do. I pray and pray and I still can't figure it out.

April Showers Bring May Flowers
The last few days have been rainy and wet. Last week too. But as I wrote the title, that is what we expect of April. We are all ready for sunshine and warmer days, but honestly, those kind of days make it harder for the kids to go to school and be willing to do homework after school. We have had some sunshiny days because I have been able to take Samuel to the park, sometimes just the two of us and other times with Ezra or other friends.
We had a such a fun time in Bryce Canyon. I'm so glad that we had sunny weather. It was really cool on Friday our first day there but not too cool to be uncomfortable hiking. Nate and Scott took all the kids down on Thursday night. We had already made reservations at the hotel and then Brittany Chatwin decided to have her bridal shower that night. Carlee as her bridesmaid felt she needed to be there and talked me into staying to go to. So the guys took the kids down Thursday night to stay in the hotel and make sure they got to use the hotel pool first thing in the morning. Carlee and Ezra and I then went down Friday morning. Carlee and I had a great drive. It went fast as we just visited the whole time and Ezra slept most of the way. We arrived at lunch time. Had an expensive lunch in the only open restaurant and then went into the Park to hike on some trails. The Park was beautiful. Not all trails were open because they were still wet from snow melt, but plenty were open that our little families could do. We loved being with the Tulett's. They provided just the right support and motivation our children needed for hiking and hopefully we did the same. We enjoyed making memories on the trails even doing some push up and sit ups challenges. People were amazed to see Eric drop right on a trail and do a bunch of sit ups. We hiked from Sunrise to Sunset Points and back, to Queens Garden on Sunday morning and even to Inspiration Point. We were too early before the actual "season" to have any shows or nature talks by Rangers but we did not lack for anything to do. The kids loved sleeping in, watching a show, playing games, eating, hiking, playing in the pool, having dinner with the Tulett's, we even watched the new Star Wars in their room. It was a nice trip to start off our Spring Break.
Also during the week of Spring Break we enjoyed an afternoon at the Jonas' private pool. Kim was at Brittany's bridal shower. I had met Kim at the Adult Swim class I attended last year, she and her husband have been receiving training from the Iron Cowboy team. She invited Carlee, Sunny, Natalie, Casey Robles and us to their place to swim. Tuesday I went and picked up Noah and Max and we all climbed to the "Y". I had to carry Sam. I though he could make it a little way but it was steep and before the first turn was wanting to be carried. Rubie struggled. Max tried to stay with her for a bit but then he wanted to keep up with Noah and Eric and Rubie was going to slow. I pushed her but let her rest. It was SUPER windy which made it cold too. It was fine while we were hiking but when we got to the "Y" it was not enjoyable just to sit there. So we hurried back down. The other days we just played with friends. The Platts moved back from England and Eric was soooooo excited. He has spent so much time over there playing with Preston and Peter. Even Pax and Porter have been here to play with Sam. They really do provide good friends to play with.
Eric and Rubie are counting the days to summer break. Even though I am not looking forward to having them home all summer. Not that I don't love having them home, we just have to come up with a new schedule. I like to have activities for them to do through the summer. Rubie will have Brain Balance.
Scott is gone to Guatemala with the military. He left last Saturday and will be home on the morning of Mother's Day. It seems like a long time. The kids are really missing him. I am missing him for this weekend. This weekend on Sunday is my 40th birthday. That's a milestone birthday. Carlee has planned this awesome weekend in Park City. I am excited but also a little anxious about it. I don't want to spend all the money it is going to cost and I worry about the kids. Sunny's girls are going to take care of them and I have arrangements for Sandy Ostler and Shannon Laudie to take and pick up Rubie from Brain Balance. I am most worried about how Sam will do. He will have a hard time sleeping and eating. But I know we will have fun and make memories.
